This South Cascades trail is located in the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument but this side was not devastated by the blast. We will hike along a lush green valley wall through quiet forests of red cedar and hemlock following above Goat Creek until coming to the incredible Cathedral Falls. It is possible, that we may have the falls all to ourselves because this hike is a hidden treasure. The trail provides an intimate, 360-degree view of the falls, leading hikers towards the base of the enormous waterfall, and then winding behind it. We can hike under a cave and enjoy the spray from the falls. After getting our fill of the falls, we will continue on for about a half mile until arriving at a junction with Goat Creek. We can stop here to cool our heels and soak in the sights and sounds of nature surrounding us before we head home. Round trip is 11 miles with an elevation gain of 400 ft. The high point is 2,400 ft. Difficulty rating: Moderate.
